Capital City: Brisbane Queensland is one of Australia's most diverse states. Visitors can combine energetic Gold Coast holidays, a more relaxed Sunshine Coast holiday or adventures in Tropical North Queensland and the remote gulf country. Queensland sits astride the Tropic of Capricorn and has warm tropics to the north with warm temperates to the south. Winter is June - August and summer is December - February. Travel is easy to arrange throughout Queensland with efficient train services that link all major coastal and inland towns. Flights operate to all major towns as well as direct flights to some of the major island resorts and tourism centres. The Bruce Highway links Brisbane and Cairns and the intermediate towns, with all offering a good selection of accommodation. The choices available in Gold Coast apartments and resorts are world class. Brisbane is a beautiful river city with a rapid growth rate and occupies a huge metropolitan area. Brisbane accommodation choices consist mostly of conventional and boutique hotels as well as self catering apartments. Queensland is a great choice for a self drive holiday and a motor car rental is a great way to see the best of the state. Queensland offers: Barrier Reef resorts and vacations, surfing, diving & snorkelling, sailing, eco tours, rainforests, bushwalking & hiking, sport fishing, jet boating, whale watching, hot air ballooning, white water rafting, canoeing & kayaking, campervan hire & 4WD tours, farm holidays, gem fossicking, Gold Coast theme parks, nightlife, golf, explore Fraser Island ... and of course the Gold Coast beaches.
