The North Coast is a one of the most popular New South Wales holiday regions renowned for its numerous quality beaches, water sports, excellent holiday attractions and laid-back lifestyle. The accommodation choices cater for all budgets with beach retreats, holiday apartments, motels, country cabins, caravan parks and camp sites. This is a popular area for backpackers and campervans are a popular option for cheap travel. Holiday makers will find water sports of every kind all year round. Then there is the golf, surfing, diving with morays and giant turtles, whale and dolphin watching, every kind of fishing, canoeing, houseboats, farm stays, skydiving, abseiling, rock climbing, white water rafting and horse riding! Coffs Harbour, with its crescent shaped beaches and banana plantations, is the major holiday centre of the region. The town is the jumping off point for white water rafting in the Nymboida River, deep sea fishing charters and diving in the Solitary Islands marine reserve. Bulahdelah and Myall Lakes are a natural refuge for pelicans, sea eagles, koalas and kangaroos. They are a major centre for cruising, canoeing, windsurfing, fishing and houseboat holidays on the network of shallow lakes. Other popular coastal towns in the region are Port Macquarie, Woolgoolga, Nambucca Heads and Tuncurry-Forster. Inland from the coast lies Kempsey, Taree and the magical Barrington Tops national park.
