The Central West is an area of New South Wales that extends from the western slopes of the Blue Mountains to Coonamble and Gunnedah in the north, to Nyngan in the west and south to Cowra. This region is an agricultural heartland with many historic New South Wales sites and contains some of the earliest of Australia's inland towns. Visitors to this region will find rural style accommodation choices. Activities and tours include farm stays, pioneer museums, rock climbing, underground caves, horse riding, hot air ballooning, fresh water fishing and gold fossicking. Bathurst is the main town of the Central West region. It's the birthplace of Cobb & Co and home of the more recent Mt Panorama race car circuit. Bathurst is an old gold rush town that is laid out on a grand scale. Forbes is the burial place of the the bushranger Ben Hall. The town has some some imposing period buildings that act as a reminder of the town's status during the gold rush days. Orange, Cowra, Dubbo, Mudgee and Gilgandra are, as one would expect, all country towns that service their surrounding rural communities. They each have their own unique charms and pieces of Australian history.
