The Central Coast is a part of New South Wales that embodies the best of coast, city and country. This is a region that includes the world class wines and vineyards of the Hunter Valley, spectacular bush scenery, mountains, lakes, rivers and lots of gourmet food. Visitors to the region will find excellent accommodation choices. Activities include tours to view Aboriginal rock paintings and engravings, horse riding, hot-air ballooning, historic sites, eco tours, bushwalking or just relax with some cellar door tours through the vineyards. Port Stephens, located on Nelson Bay, is a popular boating and fishing town known for its wild dolphin population. The town is a centre for cruise operators and offers good beaches and plenty of golf. Maitland and Morpeth are towns rich in New South Wales history being one of Australia's original settlements. They have some original Georgian style homes and buildings as examples of what the village was like in its heyday. Newcastle is one of Australia's largest ports and the second largest city in New South Wales. The city boasts fine examples of early colonial architecture and has excellent surf beaches just a few minutes from the city centre. Gosford lies on the major transport routes and acts as a central point for the attractions on the Central Coast area. It offers good bushwalking, aboriginal engravings, spring wildflowers and access to the beach resort towns and villages in the area.
